A solar pool heater can be a good investment, although the buying process can be intimidating. You should not worry because you need careful planning and research to find the proper solar pool heat pump for your pool at www.aquark.com.

Solar pool heaters are expensive and can cost between three thousand to four thousand dollars to buy and install. However, the advantage is that they would save you money and last from fifteen years and above. They last longer than gas and heat pumps. Most importantly, solar heaters are only good as long as a good amount of the sun gets the solar panel

How does a solar pool heater work?

When water is pumped from the pool through the filter system and back, the water passes through a group of solar collectors and warms up. The solar collectors are best located at the top of the roof. Once the water warms up, it flows back into the pool when already warmed. The only time solar heater systems would require electricity is when the water is pumped to the panels.

How to set up a solar pool heater

Solar collector

The solar collector warms the pool as water circulates through. There are two types of solar collectors. First, the unglazed collectors are heavy-duty plastic or rubber panels. They are treated with an ultraviolet light inhibitor that protects them from damage.

Second, the glazed collectors use copper tubing on an aluminum plate and are made of iron tampered glass covering. Glazed collectors are more expensive but last longer. The cheaper unglazed panels will save your money upfront but would require more maintenance in the long run.

Space

You will need a lot of space in your yard or roof. The surface area of your pool collector should be equivalent to 75% of the pool surface area. That is the three-quarter rule. Suppose you keep your pool open all year round. In that case, you need to increase the 75% to 100% of the surface area.

Setup

When setting up, you need to have a pool filter that would help remove debris, a flow control valve, a powerful pump, and a pump in case you have big solar collectors and a. If your current pump is small, it would be best to upgrade it to a new one. The valve is used to divert the pool water through your solar collector.

You can place the collectors anywhere around your pool. Although, they need the proper orientation, tilt, and enough exposure to the sun. The orientation is the direction the solar is facing and depends on where you live. You may be able to face it up to 45 degrees west or east.

Tilt or angle of the panels.

The angle of the panels involves the distance from the equator and how long you keep your pool open each year. The further away you are from the equator, the more you should tilt your collectors up.

The availability of the sun

That is the number of times you can access the sun, depending on your location. It can be a week, a month, or a pool season.

Solar panels are the longest-lasting type of pool heat pumps and therefore should be given good attention as they would be used for as long as they are in good condition.
